   b. 1959, London
   Actress
   Emma Thompson graduated straight from the Cambridge Footlights to the West End (Me and My Girl) and television, in Tutti Frutti (1987) and Thompson (1988), starring and written by herself. The BBC’s Fortunes of War brought her together with Kenneth Branagh, with whom she subsequently starred in Renaissance Films’ Henry V, Dead Again, Peter’s Friends and Much Ado About Nothing. Her other films include The Tall Guy, Howard’s End, for which she won the 1991 Academy Award for best actress, The Remains of the Day, In the Name of the Father, Junior and Carrington. In 1996 she adapted Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, in which she starred and for which she won another Oscar, this time for Best Adapted Screenplay.
